Work Related Injuries

January 20th, 2015 · No Comments

It’s important to be aware and informed of General Safety Tips but sometimes no matter how hard a person tries to be safe, accidents can happen.  It’s also important that you know what to do if/when you are involved in a work related accident or injury.

  • Immediately inform you supervisor. If you are working through a staffing agency, call them too. Depending on the severity of your injury, an accident report will need to be completed. (It’s also a good idea for you to write out in your own words what happened and keep for you records.) Ask for a copy of the accident report and keep it in a safe place.
  • If you need to go to a doctor, ask if there is a specific place you should go (ask your supervisor, HR or staffing representative). This is very important so you are not responsible for the billing.
  • Explain to the doctor in detail exactly what happened before, during and after the injury occurred. Ask for a note or a summary of your visit. And if the doctor recommends you avoid certain things at work for a while, be sure to get three copies of that document – one for you, one for your supervisor and one for your staffing representative.
  • Follow the directions of your doctor. If you don’t, you may reinjure yourself and/or be denied coverage of your medical care through your employer.
  • If you receive any medical bills, be sure to contact the billing department of the hospital or clinic you visited and have them sent to your employer.
  • Keep in contact with your HR department or staffing representative. They are going to want to know how you are doing and details about all of your doctor visits. They will also work with you regarding any compensation you may be eligible for while you are unable to work.

Accidents can happen!  If it happens to you, don’t make things worse by not talking to the people that can help!  If you have any questions, call your HR department – or call us, we are happy to help!

Good luck!
